About John Schooler

Experienced in ocean and mountain safety and rescue, John Schooler excels in seamanship, boat handling, and swift water rescue. For nearly a quarter century, he has held volunteer ministry partner responsibilities with Navigator Ministries. Based at Edson Range Chapel, he works with Marine boot camp recruits stationed at Camp Pendleton and at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. John Schooler’s leadership encompasses discipleship training and Bible education, and he is both a prayer team leader and class instructor. Mr. Schooler has also volunteered with the Del Mar and Solana Beach Optimist Club since 1984 and is past Honor Club president. As City of Del Mar lifeguard lieutenant for a decade, he served as operations officer for various divisions that were folded within the community services department. He successfully integrated code and parking enforcement, beach services, and lifeguard operations, and guided a team of permanent and seasonal employees. Mr. Schooler successfully developed training standards, while working to upgrade equipment and create training manuals. He also engaged as EMT and provided first aid, and CPR instruction. Among the commendations John Schooler received was one from the Optimist Club of Del Mar and Solana Beach in 1984 for rescuing seven teenagers who got caught in a rip current before hours.
